Kendra was just offered a one-year postdoc at Oberlin. We are happy. Happy happy happy.

More details: her visit yesterday went very well; the students were initially unresponsive during her talk, but she won them over, and by the end they were animated and asking questions. They seemed quite enthusiastic about the courses she's thinking of teaching (one on conversion in the ancient world, one on Roman family law). At the end of the day the chair told her that Oberlin was interested if she was. Today, the Associate Dean called to make her a formal offer. (Formal and generous—her salary just tripled, and our cost of living just dropped. And they're going to give us $1K for moving expenses, which is unusual for a one-year position.) I think it was my map that did it.

This opens up a new world of scurrying; we need to find a place to live, I need to find a new job, she needs to design her first course before course listings are posted...criminey, there's a lot to do. And Kendra, of course, really needs to finish her dissertation now.

But, yes.

Hooray.

Wow. What exciting news!

When are you moving?

And, please excuse my ignorance, but where is Oberlin again?

Hooray! I always heard that Oberlin was one of the few schools like Swarthmore, and I guess you guys will find out.

WOW.

that's so awesome I can barely stand it! Tell her I said congratulations, of course, and that *I* never doubted the fascination of heresy. :-)

Congrats, that's fantastic news. And yes there is much scurrying to be done, but trust me it's a lot less stressful when something good like this awaits.

Oh!!! Wow!! Yay!

The State Theatre won't be the same without you . .. .

That's really fantastic though. I bet those kids at Oberlin are in for a treat.

Whoo hoo!

Well done, Kendra, and by the way, well supported Jere7my! We know how tough the whole thing is, and are quite impressed. Mazel Tov!

Thanks! Oberlin is near Cleveland, so we'll still have access to Ann Arbor from time to time. (Though I suppose you won't be here anymore.)

Thanks, Ed and Fran! (And to everybody else!)

This is the third time someone has wished us Mazel Tov tonight. Must be Passover or something. :)=

Yay!! :) Please tell Kendra congratulations from me, I'm so happy for her! And I'm sure your map was what did it. ;)

I was at Hurd's last night for class, so I passed on your news, and people were really happy and excited for you both!

Congratulations, and please tell Kendra I say so. I know enough folks who are in her situation (as it was a few days ago) to know how fortunate you both are. And Oberlin is a great school.

love to you both,
Jacob

When I hear that someone has good news, my first inclination is often to wish them "Mazel Tov!" rather than "Congratulations!". I usually switch it to "Congratulations!", though, especially if they're not Jewish.

Anyway, congratulations!
