jere7my: muskrat skull (AniMe)
It never rains but it pours. Kendra got good news from two schools today: Dalhousie, a graduate institution in Halifax; and Gustavus Adolphus, an undergraduate Swedish-Lutheran school in southern Minnesota. GA wants to interview her, for a one-year position, at CAMWS in St. Louis; Dalhousie has, so far, just asked if she's still available, but we hope that this inquiry will lead to an interview for their tenure-track job. (We only somewhat hope that, actually, since moving semi-permanently to Nova Scotia would be contrary to plan. I'm sure Dalhousie is not really some rime-encrusted castle atop a windswept crag, but that's my imagination for you.) My dreams of being warm next winter are looking more and more pipish, but we are both rather uplifted by this news. "We're back in the game," as Kendra put it.

Last night I worked on a cello counterpoint for Pat Shaw's Bare Necessities. I am not, by any stretch, musically gifted, but I managed to bang together something that sounds pretty. It still needs work, and I'm learning that it's much easier to think up the doo-doo-doos in the shower than it is to turn them into notation, but I feel slightly clever. I hope to debut it on Thursday.

My chocolate cream pie, incidentally, was a grand success. When I pulled it from the oven, it wore a magnificent crown of toasted meringue, four inches high, and the thick layer of chocolate cream beneath was rich and delicious. It's slightly deflated now, but still yummy. It awaits me after work.
