[This is the public version of the previous private post, since K. has informed everyone who needed to be informed privately.]

On Friday, before she even left for home, K. was offered a three-year position at Skidmore, and yesterday she called to accept it. So that is where we will be—specifically, in Saratoga Springs, NY—until at least summer 2008.

Skidmore is a small liberal arts college near the NY - MA - VT border. Saratoga Springs is larger than Oberlin but smaller than Ann Arbor, and we are hoping it will therefore be juuuust right; K. tells me they have a Borders and a used bookstore and a used CD store, which should cover the bases. The area is woodsy, which will be a boon to my New England soul after the endless rolling cornfields of Ohio. There are at least two major racetracks in the town; we are told that tourists descend like locusts every summer to watch the horseys run around in circles, which makes me only slightly nervous—I saw worse growing up in seacoast New Hampshire.

Given the similarity of name between Skidmore and Swarthmore, it is perhaps fitting that their college radio station is WSPN.

It should be a serene and beautiful place to live, and much closer to the east coast than our current serene and beautiful place. I'm very excited, and ever so proud of my girl.
