Mayday Waltz
May. 1st, 2005 05:14 pmI did my part to lure Spring to us with music, on a big stage in a big hall, with just a fiddler beside me and fifteen or twenty couples waltzing on the floor. We played waltzes from 10:30 to 11:45, which is kind of a lot of waltzes.
I woke at 9:00 (yes, this is j7y writing, why do you ask?) and walked to McDonald's for an Egg McMuffin, because a) I'm never awake early enough to get an Egg McMuffin, and b) I figured a brisk walk would help me to wake up. It was moderately successful; I was tired enough that my fingers felt fat on the strings, and I nearly nodded off during the next-to-last waltz, but I was awake enough to converse more or less like a normal human being. We sounded pretty good...considering we'd never played together before, neither of us had ever used a real sound system before, we'd had no rehearsal time, and we'd sort of expected someone to be there to tell us what to do. As it was, we picked some waltzes more or less at random from my waltz books, started playing, and people danced. K. said we sounded good, despite the occasional flubs and disagreement as to which was the last time through. So I suppose that's a success, though I wish I'd been awake enough to play my best.
