Big Truck. Empty truck.
Jul. 2nd, 2005 01:44 pmAll our goodies are now inside the apartment, thanks to K.'s enormously helpful colleague Dan and his button-cute daughter. There was a period of crisis, when we learned that the carefully stacked Wall O' Boxes in the front of the truck had tumbled down, like unto the walls of Jericho, yea verily, praise be. Unlike the walls of Jericho, the boxes had crashed into the bookshelves, wrenching off the bookshelves' rear panels, and the bookshelves had crashed into the mattresses, and the mattresses had crashed into the dresser, which was heavy enough to stop them until the drawers were removed...and we had a sort of Katamari-style domino thing going on, with a wall of Stuff between us and the problem. Some genius rearranging and brute force averted the catastrophe, though we don't yet know what, if anything, was broken in the boxes. A cursory inspection indicates things seem fine, but we shall see. (One of the bookshelves is a dead loss, but we don't actually mind replacing it. The damage to the top of our lovely coffee table is less forgivable.)
The big empty truck is to be picked up, but as this is a holiday weekend it might take a few days. Until then, it will sit in the parking lot, I suppose. (Hi, new neighbors!)
Tonight, we look forward to the promise of dinner with Dan & family, and perhaps a shopping trip to find, say, bookshelves. (Suggestions welcome; we have no Ikea.) There should probably be kind of a lot of unpacking as well. But the ickiest parts of the move are now past; we are here.
