The fynbos
Aug. 12th, 2005 08:52 pmI set off to the bank today, for to deposit a couple of paychecks, and got most of the way there before I remembered I don't actually know where my bank is. I explored the tributary streets on either side of Broadway for a while, seeing nothing that looked particularly bankish, and was just heading back to Broadway to give up when I spotted it. I looked around then, and realized I had no idea where anything else in Saratoga was. I think my bank is cloaked by some sort of psychic mazement or invisible fog, such that it does not exist relative to anything else. Next time, I bring a ball of string and a bit of wax.
I had exquisitely bad conversational timing last night, and engineered with dogged ignorance a collision between my insecurity and someone else's distraction. My subconscious cannot see a dangling thread, however slender, and not want to unravel it; the end result was one grumpy person and one sad one, or vice versa. I'm still in a bit of a funk today, but spent a bit of my newly-deposited cash on the new Nick Cave 3-CD box set of rarities and B-sides to cheer myself up. "Woo!" I said to myself. "56 tracks of obscure Nick Cave! 219 minutes of bleak groaning grit and misery! That'll certainly...uh...lift my...mood..."
I was met by a happy email from K. and a purringly affectionate cat this afternoon, which helped. And I completed the Bridge Construction Set level that had been opposing me for a couple of days, though my bridge lacks anything approaching elegance. So, woo.
