[livejournal.com profile] adfamiliares is teaching her first Skidmore class today. She is (I know) poised and clever and sleek, and she will make her kids sit up and take notice, but I thought I'd publicly wish her luck, even if she doesn't need it.

Good luck, sweetie.

Barely Legal Lesbian Vampires: The Curse of Ed Wood is more of a Goth home movie than a film; I expect you could get similar results by walking into a Goth club, handing the residents a camera, and saying "I'll give $100 to anyone who'll take off her top, wear vampire fangs, and film it." It looks like it was shot for public access TV, which might in fact be the case; it's all digital video, there's an over-reliance on post-production dubbing, and the scenes were shot wherever they happened to find space. (You can tell because the Evill Vampyre Donjon of Lust and Tormentulousness is equipped with a fire extinguisher, which they obviously didn't bother to remove. They're evil vixens of the night, yes, but they're safety-conscious evil vixens of the night.)

The plot—who needs a plot? It involves a lesbian couple who split up (conveniently, just after a blurry, interminable, and unconvincing sex scene), a vampire named Carmilla who seems to be channeling the Great Tyrant from Barbarella ("Carmilla has waited so long for her pretty-pretty!"), and a vampire slayer named Muffy who has "the amazing ability to be able to convert ordinary water into holy water!" Carmilla, I have to admit, is actually damn cute, in a geeky sort of way, and I expect she'd knock my socks off if I met her at a con instead of while she's mouthing bad dialogue and trying to keep her fangs from falling out.

When it's not trying too hard, the movie can be charming—like the extended torture/vampire conversion scene that exists solely to set up a cheesy punch line, or the photocopied vampire-party invites taped to gravestones. And the sex is...not particularly sexy, for the most part, but bits of it offer an almost documentary look at the fetish scene (some scenes were filmed in an NYC Goth club, in fact), and the actresses are clearly Real People, cellulite and all. Kinda nifty. But it's too amateurish even to be bad, too easy to skewer; I expect the Pterodactyl Hunt video, for instance, to be of considerably higher quality. I'm sure they had loads of fun filming it, but I'm not sure why anyone else would want to watch it.

That said, I now know exactly what it's like to be Goth in NYC. All is clear.

For funsies, I finally took one of the Meyers-Briggs tests; my result is ENFJ. They say I'm strongly iNtuitive (versus Sensing), moderately Feeling (vs. Thinking) and Judging (vs. Perceiving), and right on the border of Extroverted/Introverted. I have faith in that last result—my gregarious nature is constantly warring with my need to be alone, so I can see a balance there—and less in the others. But, hey, if they want to say I have "tremendous charisma," who am I to argue? (No word on my DEX, CON, INT, etc.)

Then again, there are passages in the ISTP description (ostensibly my polar opposite) that suit me, so *shrug*.
