Watch for this

This Film Is Not Yet Rated (see here) is an upcoming documentary from the great Kirby Dick about the MPAA and how they do what they do. All our movies—all the ones that want any commercial success, anyway—are rated by a secret board of guys, and they've had a disproportionate say in what makes it to our screens for about forty years. The AICN description I linked to hath pricked mine ears.

Fingers

Stinky fingers: recipes involving chopped onions, crushed garlic, and grated Gruyère make for stinkiness of the fingerly region. Yow.

Speedy fingers: in an attempt to boost my ability to accompany by ear, I've been telling iTunes to randomly choose selections from my British Isles genre for me to play along with. I'm getting better; I'm generally able to suss out the key within sixteen bars or so (and I just spotted a Gm right off, which made me happy). Occasionally I come upon a tune I happen to have the music for, and more often than not I've chosen, on the fly, more or less the same chords the archivist did. This is kinda cool.

If only my fingers weren't so chilly. (And stinky.)
