Time well spent
Feb. 10th, 2006 04:04 pmI just spent time on the phone with Verizon and AmeriTel Services, Inc., concerning the 900 number calls Leo the phone-jacker placed on our line last November. AmeriTel Services has been sending increasingly menacing letters asking for their $64.05, but agreed to chill if Verizon would back up our story. It took six different people, one accidental disconnect, and 45 minutes, but a Verizon manager has agreed to send a letter explaining the situation to AmeriTel.
Hooray. That wasn't time I could've spent working, no no.
While I'm complaining, the Moosewood recipe for the pasties I made last night had a mistake in it. For the crust, they told me that moistening 3c of flour and 2c of butter ("cut in with your fingers") with 3T of ice water would produce something that could be rolled out. This is madness. Ignoring the fact that I have no idea how to "cut in" butter with my fingers, I've made plenty of pie crusts; 3T of ice water wouldn't moisten a dumpling wrapper. 8T of water later, I had something that more or less cohered when I smushed it into a ball, though bits crumbled off if I wasn't careful. When I rolled it out, it cracked, and made for the ugliest pasties you ever saw. The entire process was an exercise in frustration.
Then, after all that, they wouldn't even stick to my nipples.
