The Southwick Jog

If you hooked your finger through Cape Cod and pulled it eastward, attempting to slide Massachusetts out like a dresser drawer from the surrounding states, you would be prevented by an odd little notch of real estate projecting from the southern border of the state. (You would be prevented by a number of other things as well, but it is the notch we shall be focusing on.) If you're anything like me, you've noticed that notch before, and wondered what it was doing there, breaking up the nice straight Massachusetts-Connecticut border.
