The democratic circus
Sep. 13th, 2006 12:37 amThree contested D primary races for us in Saratoga: attorney general, governor, and senator. (I thought the 21st congressional district was in question too, but apparently the scrappy backrunner dropped out.) I forgot to research the AG race, and thus abstained; I went with prevailing wisdom on governor and voted for Spitzer; and I voted for the vehemently anti-war Tasini over Clinton, which was half voting my conscience and half sending Clinton a message that her wishy-washy war stance doesn't sit well with me.
Tasini never had a chance, but he had this quote on his homepage:
Tasini never had a chance, but he had this quote on his homepage:
"The ultimate weakness of violence is that it is a descending spiral, begetting the very thing it seeks to destroy. Instead of diminishing evil, it multiplies it… Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction.... The chain reaction of evil - hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars - must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the dark abyss of annihilation." - Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.That's some quote. Every vote he got is another tiny tap on Hilary Clinton's shoulder, another faint whisper of Dr. King's words in her ear.
