Simple solutions

There was a recent news story in the UK about bicycle helmets actually making you less safe. Drivers see you wearing a helmet, assume you're a hot-shot road warrior, and pass you with less clearance. If you swerve to avoid a pothole or baby skunk, splat!

However, I've discovered that if you wear a brightly colored fleece jester's cap under the helmet, with tassels and jingly bells dangling out, they'll give you lots of clearance. They really keep their distance, in fact.
