Breathe...

Okay, then. Don't shout it about, but I seem to be writing again. The move knocked me off the rails, then Pinewoods and houseguests and Desktop Tower Defense, with general malaise and self-doubt to grout the cracks between them. Dear Lord, it's hard to reclaim confidence in an unfamiliar place, when all of your habits and haunts are two hundred miles away. WhothehellamIkidding? But I wrote half a page last night, and a page tonight, and if that progression continues I'll be finished in eight days. (Ha ha.)

Somebody tell me I'm not crazy. I can write this, right? Right. Bam-zoom.

In other news, Boston acclimatization continues. [livejournal.com profile] adfamiliares being in Seattle, [livejournal.com profile] elusiveat kept me company Friday night to watch Lost in Translation and, gradually, endear herself to my cat. Today I caught Die Hard 4 at the Fenway Regal and fought through the mingled baseball and concert crowds afterwards to eat at Uburger at Kenmore Square. (Verdict: really excellent fries, crispy and golden and translucently brown at the tips and edges, with malt vinegar if you want it. The burgers themselves are a little McDonaldine, flat and dense, but more flavorful and juicy than the fast food version. Toppings are extensive: I got mine with banana peppers, pepper jack cheese, and guacamole, which was a good combo. They don't offer pineapple rings. They should. My meal—burger, fries, Coke, huge shake made with real ice cream—was $11.)

Last night, coming home, my CharlieCard successfully transferred me from the B trolley to the 57 bus without charging me for it. Not sure what I did differently, but that never happened before, though it's supposed to. Maybe Boston likes me now.

Swan songs

I finally imported [livejournal.com profile] adfamiliares's Swan Silvertones gospel CD into iTunes tonight. I blinked when I saw who'd mastered the collection (and written the liner notes): Barret Hansen, aka Doctor Demento! I knew he had a master's in ethnomusicology, but this was quite the unexpectedness.
