Today's experiment: biking to work!
With some Google Maps finagling, I was able to find a sub-seven-mile route1 that should have been very easy to remember, as it principally followed roads beginning with A: Arsenal to Arlington to Mt. Auburn to Aberdeen. I still managed to make three wrong turns on the way up, and one on the way back, because this is Boston, and we are sensitive to our many residents with traumatic street sign allergies. Even so, I shaved five minutes off my morning MBTA commute (typically 1 hour, today 55 minutes) and thirty from the commute home (1:15 → :45).
The route takes me along the Charles, past Mount Auburn Cemetery, and around two sides of Fresh Pond, all of which are lovely, relaxing rides. (It also takes me over a busy concrete overpass near Alewife Station, but there doesn't seem to be much to do about that.)
adfamiliares tells me it is Bike to Work Week, so I am apparently on a bandwagon of some sort. It is also Wobbly Leg Day, it seems, which I am celebrating by sitting on my tuckus and drinking lime-ade.
1The route is imprecise, because I spent a couple of half-blocks going the wrong way on one-way streets, and because I cut through the parking lot of a Serbian Orthodox Church to avoid a quarter mile on Rt. 16. I'm a little hooligan, I am.
