Novikiation
Jul. 11th, 2008 09:25 pmI just got back from
naominovik's reading at Pandemonium. Novik is the author of the endlessly addictive Temeraire series, about people riding dragons during the Napoleonic Wars. She is tiny and charming and funny, and has done something nicely coppery to her hair. I wound up plopped in the middle of the front row by the simple expedient of walking by as the girls there were wailing, "Why will nobody sit beside us? We won't bite!" (They didn't.)
Naomi read for us her story from Dozois's forthcoming Dragons anthology, about the first time a dragon got a rider in the West (guest star: Cato!), then answered quite a few questions about her writing process and where the series was going and how she felt about Peter Jackson optioning the books. I got my copy of Her Majesty's Dragon signed with a doodle of a dragon, and things were all around agreeable.
