This is a little gross, but I will endure the embarrassment in order to share what I have learned with the world. Attend!
My sandals were stinky. They were the sort of heat-activated stinky that made my feet stinky, rather than the other way around, within three minutes of putting them on. Washing them (and my feet) beat back the stink temporarily, but as soon as I put them back on the stink would burst forth in odorous hallelujahs. These are relatively new (and relatively expensive) Eccos, so discarding them was not a good option.
But, brothers and sisters, I have found the answer! Since submitting my sandals to the following process on Monday, I have not detected whiff one. This is what I did:

But, brothers and sisters, I have found the answer! Since submitting my sandals to the following process on Monday, I have not detected whiff one. This is what I did:
- Poured hydrogen peroxide onto the insoles.
- Stood gobsmacked by the explosion of foam that resulted.
- Repeated the
OHH2O2 treatment, and wiped them out with a paper towel, being sure to work theOHH2O2 into all the crevices. - Laid the sandals on the back porch and sprinkled them with baking soda, again working it into all the crevices.
- Let them sit out in the hot sun, covered in baking soda, for five or six hours.
- Brushed off the baking soda and savored my stylish new stink-free footwear.
