How to get into Harvard
May. 20th, 2009 09:34 pmBeautiful bike ride along the Charles tonight. It's 25 minutes to Harvard Square, give or take, skipping from Memorial over to Mount Auburn at Hawthorne. I bought some books at the Coop1 and refreshed myself with a cold bottle of mint lime soda, then rode home beneath a stunning canopy of sunset: bands the color of honey and tangerine and molten gold, rippling with blue facets in the river. It was a bit buggy, but about 80% of the gnats out there are now stuck to my teeth and eyeballs, so it should be clearer now.
I've been riding a lot — to work in Medford yesterday (~15 miles round trip), down to the Arnold Arboretum in JP a week or two ago. It puffs me up with energy and good cheer, every time, even when it gives me the wobble-legs.
1Okay, I'll say it: Kate, the woman who sold me my books, strikes me with her fabulous sense of personal style every time I go in there. Black vest, short-sleeved black shirt, wootz-patterned gray tie, and gray pocket kerchief, plus lip ring and spiky bleached hair. Rock it.
