Take that, biotics
Feb. 14th, 2011 01:44 amSince my morning temperature was 102.6°,
adfamiliares made me go to the walk-in clinic at Mount Auburn today. They swabbed the back of my throat to check for strep (my quick strep test was negative, which means I don't have type A, the bad strep, but might have types B through G) and tickled the inside of my nose to check for flu (also negative, and made me make Calvin's "Don't you hate it when your boogers freeze?" face). The doctor, who was very sweet and cooed sympathetically at me as she massaged my glands, said mono was a possibility, but an unlikely one, due to my age and the bacterial look of my tonsilitis. So she prescribed a broad-spectrum antibiotic (Clindamycin, which comes in pretty turquoise pills), in the hope that it will knock out whatever bacteria happen to have taken up residence. If I develop a rash over most of my body, it will indicate that it was mono after all, at which point I should call them.
