[livejournal.com profile] adfamiliares got to the Big Reveal in The Slow Palace tonight, the solution to the tent-pole mystery that the whole book is built around, and says she found it fully satisfying — in fact, she'd intended to read one chapter and take a break, but wound up getting caught up and finishing both. This is a great relief, because if the central mystery turned out to be stupid the book would be fatally flawed, and I would have to start over. (No, seriously.)

Then I went to Diesel and re-read the upcoming chapter 31, expecting to find a sprawling mess that would need to be almost entirely thrown out, and was instead pleasantly surprised. The through-line is muddy, and one scene is now extraneous, and I can simplify a few things here and there, but the bulk of it is quite workable. This was the chapter I was most dreading revisions on; now only the final chapter, chapter 36, needs major work. I hope.

Hey, I'm feeling almost chipper about my book. Granted, most of that is probably caffeine from the Accelerator I drank, but still...how odd!
