So I was listening to All Saints from David Bowie's Low on the walk home tonight, and I was really grooving on the eerie, distorted loudspeaker announcements squawking behind the industrial music. I couldn't make out the words (apart from the occasionally repeated "No emergency"?), but they gave a real sense of ominous, authoritarian dread to the track. A vivid picture formed in my mind: near-future factory workers shuffling along under an ever-watchful eye, listening to endless indecipherable announcements, purposefully muffled by the authorities to elevate anxiety without conveying information.

It wasn't until a Robert Johnson blues song started up and the loudspeaker didn't stop that I realized I'd been listening to a snow emergency announcement in the Real World.

Freaky. (But, man, what a cool mash-up that would make.)
