Had I known there was going to be Manos, I would've come down a day earlier. I've seen it once, and I clearly haven't suffered enough, so I would've come down to see it again.
Local friends are good, but making good friends before you settle down more permanently is likely to lead to more non-local friends, and not help with the local friends issue in the long run. This is not to say that you shouldn't try to make friends with people around you, but rather that it's not something I'd worry about too much (aside from any effects on your current happiness) until you have a permanent residence.
I'm not entirely convinced that Smaug is an animal, but I'm fairly certain that ALF is not. I'd be more likely to accept that Smaug isn't than that ALF is.
You're right, Miriam has pretty eyes. Pretty the-rest-of-her, too. Your pictures here and in SWAPA have not done her justice.
