"Why have I been so quiet this week?" perhaps you have been asking yourselves. (Probably not.) This week has produced a collision of obligations and desires. It is:
  • My last week of work before my sabbatical, so I have been working nearly twice as much as normal, storing up nuts for the lean season.

  • The last week of splendid springlike weather, which lures me outside.

  • The weekend of the Flurry (a.k.a. Saratoga Folkdancecon Extravaganza 2006, or something).

  • The weekend of SWAPA collation, with me up for minac.

  • The week I had an idea for a parody (nothing to do with Swarthmore this time), which pesters me to work on it whenever I try to do anything else. (I can spend four straight hours tweaking a bassline. Apparently.)

  • The last week of sweeps, so every TV show I watch is airing whiz-bang exciting episodes.
Yeah, I know; life is rough. Poor poor me. But this week is unusually time-dense. Naturally, next week I will have no work to do, the weather will be awful (projected low on Saturday: 0°), [livejournal.com profile] adfamiliares will be unavailable due to having an out-of-town visitor, and most TV will be in reruns. Feast or famine, it is. Fortunately, I have four (four!) unplayed computer RPGs, the video store finally has Mirrormask and Godzilla: Final Wars in stock, and I have a few major projects I've been wanting to get back to.

I did manage to get outside for a walk today, in the shockingly warm (60°) air. I circumnavigated the cemetery, its chain-link fence and overgrown areas giving the impression I was walking past a zoo for the dead. I was fascinated, today, by houses and their surroundings: brick turrets and tower rooms; the rollaway overhead crane system at the gravestone works across the street; the strange louvred slats dividing the porch of a duplex; the painted vines-and-flowers delineating (devineating?) the spaces in a parking lot; the artificial Christmas tree that perfectly matched the colors of the porch it still graced two months after Christmas. In one garden there was a lawn ornament depicting a dog in the process of pooping, with the word NO! painted on it. Seems like a pyrrhic victory, there: okay, yes, perhaps you're discouraging dog-walkers, but your lawn is decorated with a little white Scotty-dog with half a log of poo emerging from its ass. Well done, homeowner.

0° is a perfectly reasonable low. It's when the high is 0° that it's a bit nippy out.

So, what are the four unplayed RPGs?
