The Cowboy Junkies really only have the one tone, but, damn, they know what to do with it. The Trinity Sessions is an amazing album.

Don't you hate it when you wake up in the middle of a good dream? This morning, I was just putting the moves on Cordelia Chase—successfully, I might add, though as we were in public my aspirations were limited—when my alarm went off. Grumble, grumble.

I had an experimental sandwich for lunch: smoked turkey on toasted potato bread, with mayo, Dijon, port wine cheese, and a few anchovies. It tasted like anchovies. Let this be a lesson.

Speaking of food, did you know that pickles can go moldy? I went to grab a pickle, for to slice it for my sandwish, and discovered that the pickles poking up above the brine were fuzzy. Pickles don't live here anymore.

I have a thing about mold.

Anyway. I'm taking a break from writing SWAPA to write for LiveJournal. What does that say?

After last week's great Scottish dance class (our band had a cellist for the first time, plus fiddle, my guitar, another guitar, keyboard, and mandocello, and we rocked with fabulousness), tonight I didn't get a chance to play at all; no melody players ever showed up, except for one hesitant pianist who sounded fine but needs some practice before she'll be solid enough for beginners to dance to. Hmph. That was three hours of disappointment, there. Afterward, I had to change the marquée; we're getting The Dreamers, Bertolucci's new film, which is NC-17 but looks to be rather uninteresting for all that. Maybe I've just seen the trailer too many times. I stopped in Borders, treated myself to Guy Gavriel Kay's new book (hey, Guy Gavriel Kay has a new book!), then came home to watch Survivor and write a whole lot of SWAPA. I was dreading writing tonight, given the way the rest of the day went, but it went well after all. It probably helped that I started with mindless photo manipulation; that eased me into it. A few reviews and a bunch of comments are all that remain to do tomorrow; I'm feeling better about my zine than I was yesterday.

I went looking for paczki yesterday—have you heard of paczki (pronounced poonch-key)? My co-workers laughed at me for not having heard of them; they're apparently fried doughnut sorts of things that Polish Catholics eat on Fat Tuesday, to use up the butter in their larders. Anyway, I theorize that it's a Michigan thing, and wanted to find some (day-old) paczki to experience local color, etc. I was unsuccessful, but did find a tasty barbecue pork roll in the Asian bakery downtown. Eh, close enough. And Kendra was awfully pleased that I was able to walk her home from school.

Hmm. Not a terribly thrilling update, but it'll do.

Does anyone know if our friend in Hawaii reads LJ?

Sounds to me like you're a writer. :^)

Hi, I'm just curious, is that a Vietnamese turtle statue in your userpic?

I don't think so; I got it in Hawaii, and I think it was made by a local artist, although the artist might've been of Vietnamese descent (or crafting in the Vietnamese style, or something) for all I know.

Shoot, I don't have my photos from Vietnam uploaded to the web, otherwise I could show you a pic of a stone turtle that looks quite similar (and I really liked the Vietnamese turtle statues, they looked so gruff and no-nonsense). A quick Google search just netted zippo. So, this may earn me "most unnecessary comment of the day" honors, but I guess you'll just have to take my word for it: your turtle looks Vietnamese.
