The projected man
Sep. 15th, 2005 10:11 pmNew gadget = few updates. My iMic arrived yesterday, which means I can now plug my microphone into it and record my voice and geetar; naturally, I've been spending a lot of time playing around with it. It is really really tempting to use GarageBand's vocal filters on every single thing I record, so I sound like a chipmunk or Leia-as-Boushh-in-Jabba's-palace or a demon from the Fifth Circle of Heck. (The freakiest filter is the one that makes my voice a woman's, because it really works.) I had some trouble with constant static on one of my USB ports—probably poor shielding somewhere—but, after a lot of hair-tearing, switching to a different port cleared it up, and now I can record pretty clean audio.
As it happens, I can also use the iMic (and the Final Vinyl it came with) to convert our vinyl collection to digital, which is a huge project that snuck up on me and went "Blarr!" I'm not even close to done with our cassettes. *sigh*
I've also been cajoled into sending a Flirt deck to some friends, which means that project has awakened from its slumber as well; I keep pondering play mechanics. And I've been working on a filk or two, and working for Google a goodly amount. So I've been occupying myself. Still need to Get A Life here, though; there is an overlarge dose of moodiness and loneliness in my daily routine, particularly now that
adfamiliares is on-campus all day. Hrmf.
