Fourteen strings
Nov. 13th, 2006 02:23 amI got a chance to play for Scottish dancers tonight, which always cheers me up. I was the rhythm section (and only Scottish musician) for a husband-and-wife duo of contra musicians (her: fiddle, him: upright bass). I was afraid it would be chaos—I'd never really played with them, and we didn't have much communication beforehand—but we actually sounded pretty darn good, and the class seemed enthused by the live music. Really, the teacher should not say "Could you play that at 64 beats per minute instead of 63?" to a brand-new band—we do not come with a knob—but I think this'll be a lot of fun once we work out the communication issues. We play again in two weeks. What should our name be? [Edit: Fourteen Strings is already taken. Damn hippies.]
(Tip o' the hat to Elke and Liz, who got us together at the workshop.)
