The previous tenant joined the BMG Music Club, then scarpered, leaving us with a box of 5 CDs sitting on our doorstep. (We also have a box of seven hardcover books, and another containing a Gevalia coffee maker and some bags of coffee.) BMG (when I called them) told us just to keep the CDs. One of them, gloriously, is a 2-CD set of hair metal. I am not allowed to listen to this track when [livejournal.com profile] adfamiliares is in earshot, so I huddle in my office with my headphones in.

But I write not for that—I write because I have my first email address on the Slow Palace fan mailing list! Which does not, per se, exist! A German fellow in CaféNation tonight glanced over from his laptop to ask what I was drawing in my Moleskine. "Clocks," I said. "I'm writing a book, and I need to work out what the clocks look like." This led to a discussion of the book, and his life, and how the one pertains to the other. When I left, he asked if I would mind emailing him when my book hit the shelves, and so I have an email address written in the back of my Moleskine. Apparently, it's only a matter of time until I have built a fanbase, all without having to show my writing to anyone. Brilliant!

I have decided that chapter 7, unlike chapter 6, will have something happen in it. It's a radical departure from form, but I think, overall, a good plan.
