Not in a row...
Oct. 6th, 2007 02:04 amSo, we get out of the Jonathan Coulton / Paul & Storm show around 1:15, well after the red line has stopped running, and anyway the red line caught on fire tonight, so the point was probably moot. Awesomely rockalicious show, I'll blog about it tomorrow, yadda yadda. But here's why I'm posting now: we needed a cab. We needed money for a cab. We went to the nearby Store 24 to use the ATM, chosen because it was affiliated with
adfamiliares's bank.
It was closed.
Store 24, I say again, was closed. That's a joke, a literal, quite tired, jokeāin fact, I made that very joke as we were approaching the door, because I am not above recycling the occasional tired joke: "Hey, I hope the Store 24 isn't closed! Ha ha!" And the punchline came flying in from nowhere and smacked me wetly across the forehead: "Well, so it is." Crickets chirped.
Then the other
adfamiliares-affiliated ATM on the block wouldn't open the door when she inserted her card into the slot. The beady little LED stayed red, like a tiny HAL with a piping pipsqueak voice plotting our downfall. "I will refuse to open the ATM bay doors," it chirped1 to itself, "and they will suffocate! If only there were more cold hard vacuum out here, like in that movie."
Bank of America ATMs, happily, are prolific and accessible in Davis Square, and I now have income, so I was able to pay the silver-haired hackneyman. And we are home.
Awesome, as I said, show.
1 It was probably allied with the crickets.2
2 I like how the HTML tags for superscript are and . It's a little street conversation between tags: "'Sup?" "'Sup."
