That's pretty appalling. I mean, I understand the mindset that says we have to take any suspicious act seriously, but they really should have had the grace to apologize to the guy for the embarrassment and inconvenience.
Well, take a suspicious act seriously, maybe, but the worst part about this was that it wasn't a suspicious act. Had he been white, no one would have even noticed.
I agree about the appallingness of this, but I can't help noticing that the author appears to be engaging in some pretty strong stereotyping himself. "...a person who has to walk by the ROTC offices every day" implies that we're supposed to judge everyone in the organization by the actions of that one man.
