After the deluge
May. 22nd, 2004 08:18 pmAfter I mailed off my SWAPA last night, Kendra and I took a perfectly aimless walk, gauging the effects of the storm on the nearby neighborhoods we somehow never see. Fallen branches and sodden drifts of petals cluttered the sidewalks; the air smelled scrubbed and perfumed. We discovered a long warehouse, boarded up behind a chain link fence and surrounded by trucks from many different businesses; a real estate company with a mysterious four-foot-high earthen crawl space between the foundation and the building; wild gardens half-consuming their houses; a ritzy restaurant in Kerrytown which had successfully hidden from us for seven years. Our trek ended at Kilwin's, the Satanic ice cream shop which has recently hidden its dark past beneath a thin veneer of kitsch, where we shared a hot fudge sundae. (A hot fudge sundae...of EVIL!) Then home, for a read-aloud chapter of Harry Potter V (specifically, the bit in St. Mungo's).
Later that night, my attention was grabbed away from B movies by a very good three-hour AIM conversation with
flammifera, which I found very informative. (Apparently, I am thick, and miss the obvious sometimes.) Regardless, she was considerably more interesting than Judge Dredd, my other option, and she sent me some pretty pictures.
Milestone: I have now rated half of my songs in iTunes. Only 3800+ to go.
