Because I was riding my bike to work, I stopped buying MBTA monthly passes in June of this year. I just bought one for November. They're $59, so I ordinarily would've spent $295 on public transportation during that time. I actually spent $145 (because I do still sometimes take the bus / T).

My bike saved me $150 this summer!

I'm curious: have you factored in bicycle maintenance/parts for which you paid? I'm assuming even with that there's still considerable savings, but I'm curious nonetheless.

I spent about $25 on parts & maintenance this year: a new tube, chain lube (which will last a long time), and $10 to true my rear wheel after I fell. It probably won't always be that cheap, but then the bike is also a recreational expense, which can't be said of the T.
