State Changes
Jul. 7th, 2004 03:19 amIt's a dark and stormy night. I just ran outside in my underwear to drag several large fallen branches out of Miller Avenue, where they were causing trouble, since nobody else was doing anything. (I was in my underwear because, prior to the storm, it was unbearably hot and humid. It's all right; they were boxer-briefs.) The rain and wind are abating a bit, but there was a whirlwind of blowing papers in our living room for a few minutes.
Tonight was my last night of work at the State Theater.
I've been ready to leave for a while, but it was still a little sad threading the projectors for the last time, eating my last free popcorn, locking the doors behind me. It was a fun night, though. Before we opened, I went up to the roof with Bill and Brendan to take pictures of Ann Arbor (and generally goof off). Unfortunately, they'd left a batch of popcorn in the kettle, and when we got back downstairs we found a lobby full of the most godawfully odorous smoke you could ever hope to encounter, and a popper full of charred black goop that used to be corn. When we left there was still quite a bit of char in the air, but I imagine it'll air out in a month or two.
Bill bought us sushi for dinner, as a going-away present, and I gave him a DVD of Something Weird Video trailers; Katrina W. stopped by to hang out for a while; Diana came by to give me a sweet farewell note, which she (accurately) described as being like something out of a high school yearbook. 'Twas nice.
Scary, now, to have no source of income. K. will be able to provide for us both, handily, even if I don't find anything in Oberlin, but still....
K., too, had a bit of a farewell to-do tonight. Her English dance friends threw her a little party, with cake, a card of many signatures, and a flower. Apparently, her co-caller changed all the dance names to involve K., so they danced "K.'s Skipping off to Oberlin" and "K.'s Been in Our Alley." I just know that I found a lot of leftover cake when I got home. [Homer]Mmm...leftover cake.[/Homer] I ate chocolate cake and drank a big glass of wholesome milk while watching the premiere of The Amazing Race 5 (which was quite promising).
