My ears have stopped ringing, more or less. These kids today, I tell ya, with their loud music and their crossdressing....

Drag Ball was last night. K. found a stretchy yet elegant dress for me to wear, I bought black nylons (size Q) and nail polish...and I took a blade to my whiskers, on the theory that a thing worth doing is worth going overboard for. Most of you have never seen me without a goatee; K. had never seen me without it. Neither of us really recognizes me anymore. (It turns out my mouth is quite small.) I'm not sure how passable I was, but it was fun, and someone did tell me I have "tranny dream hair."

K. herself looked fabulous, in one of her students' suits and a hint of five o'clock shadow. We arrived at about ten, got our wee wristbands, and entered the maelstrom: poundingly loud and distorted music, a haze of artificial smoke in the air, whirling lights with colorful gobos and preprogrammed blink patterns. K. chatted with a few of her students, who were predictably excited to see her, and we danced a little, but for the most part we wandered about looking at the costumes, trying not to be obviously Old.

Fortunately, there were performances, so we had something to stare at without feeling conspicuous. A big fat professional drag queen hosted, and two or three other pros lip-synched and danced; they shared the bill with a pretty fabulous drag fashion show (the girl dressed as Prince was hot-t-t) and student performances, my favorite of which was a greaser-dyke number lip-synched to Need You Tonight by INXS. (It involved greaser-dyke making out. Oh my.) Two of K.'s students performed, one a bubbly (literally) version of Workin' at the Car Wash, the other a blue-lit tranny torch song called Half and Half.

I was nursing a headache and K. was feeling faint, so we fled before the winner of the fashion show was announced. Still, it was an Authentic Obelin Experience™, and quite a bit of fun; I'm glad we went.

But you don't care about that; you want the pictures. The lighting was not exactly optimal, but I did manage to get a few nice shots at the ball, and some nice (of Kendra) and awkward (of me, since I was shooting myself with the little remote control) shots at home.

[livejournal.com profile] _swallow and I are running away with Kendra. Will you bring her down here for us so we can steal her more conveniently?

Sure! She's been known to smooch the girlies. Will you be around for Alumni Weekend? All I ask for in return is pictures.

Yes, well, she would probably want a say in the matter anyway. She never seems to like the plans I make for her.

(Well, hardly ever.)

Absolutely fabulous. People used to shop for this at the Iguana, and my mother was usually caught between being pleasantly amused and rather uncomforable.

Where was it held ?
